Sara Kimber is a figurative sculptor living in Humboldt County, Arcata, California. Born in Cambridge, England she moved to America in 1967 and spent her childhood traveling the world with her Botanist father and OB-GYN Mother.  Fueled by her father's passion to understand the origins of wheat and her mother's awareness of women's health care and rights, Sara traveled through the fields, landscapes and homes of Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The sculpture laden temples of India, the meditative aesthetic of Asia, and the terra cotta warriors were major influences to her art. The amazing, caring, intelligent people, and the inequities they delt with influenced Sara’s personal activism. 

 

Retired from her 30-year role located in San Ramon as a project manager, Sara is evolving her artistic practice in the fields of ceramic, casein painting and metal casting. Her current unique take on paint and clay involves painting landscape and botanical scenes on the surfaces of her ceramic figures.

 

Sara is currently, working on an MFA in Ceramics, serving as the President of the Redwood Art Association (a non-profit art gallery in Humboldt County) and mentoring museum and gallery practices interns from Cal Poly Humboldt.  Her work has appeared in numerous online and in-gallery exhibitions. A few of her exhibition accomplishments include Best of Show in the Redwood Art Association 67th Summer exhibition, inclusion in the H2O Exhibition at the Museum of Northern California Art and the Northwestern Biennial in Oregon.
